Two patients are declining ambulance transport, and *three* others are being taken to area hospitals by LAFD Paramedics for treatment following exposure to smoke. The age, gender and affiliation of the patients, and their circumstances at the time of the fire have yet to be determined. Fatality Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#0468; 08:08AM; 8766 N Matilija Av; https://bit.ly/45zlCrW; #PanoramaCity; 34 LAFD Firefighters responded quickly to find fire showing from a 1,535 square foot one-story home. During an aggressive and well-coordinated fire attack, firefighters discovered an adult female - described by residents as mobility impaired, lifeless in a rear bedroom. Beyond medical help, she was determined dead and remains at the scene. The fire was extinguished in just 21 minutes (8:29 AM), and confined within the residence. Three other residents, including one child, who were home at the time of the fire, are now being medically evaluated by LAFD Paramedics at scene for smoke exposure. The presence and functional status of smoke alarms at the time of the fire has yet to be determined. The home, built in 1949, was not equipped with (optional) residential fire sprinklers. Knockdown - Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0255; 05:43AM; 1547 N Sierra Bonita Av; https://bit.ly/46Vd8fS; #Hollywood; 69 LAFD Firefighters took 65 minutes in largely defensive firefighting operations to extinguish fire in a vacant and under construction two-story home with basement that was fully involved on LAFD arrival. The flames were prevented from damaging structures on three sides of the burning building. No injuries have been reported. Fire Department and allied agency operations will continue on site well into the morning, as Fire Department heavy equipment (e.g. bulldozer, excavator) is brought in to lift and move the massive amount of still smoldering debris. No injuries reported. The cause of the fire is considered suspicious - and was among several rubbish/debris/vegetation fires discovered nearby at the same time. The other fires were quickly extinguished by LAFD responders, before they could cause structural damage or injury. The well-coordinated firefight prevented fire damage to adjacent buildings. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is considered suspicious - and was among a handful of rubbish/debris/vegetation fires that occurred in the general area at the time of the fire. The other fires were quickly extinguished by LAFD responders, before they could cause structural damage or injury.
