Crews quickly snuffed out the small fire, and will remain on scene to evacuate the smoke from the building using blowers. No reported injuries. Due to the location and access issues it took firefighters 81 minutes (4:42am) to extinguish the flames. LAFD Air Operations provided critical water drops to keep it from growing while ground crews gained access. No reported injuries. Update Technical Rescue 06/16/2024 INC#1492

Update Technical Rescue; INC#1492; 10:08PM; 1349 S Flower St; https://bit.ly/3zfySXW; #DowntownLA; Firefighters used specialized cameras to pinpoint the location of the man within the 4-story chimney, prior to breaching the wall from inside the apartment building. LAFD Urban Search and Rescue crews were able to break through into the vertical space using electric-powered tools (to avoid carbon monoxide build up inside the building where the breach operation took place) and entered the shaft below the man and slide him down to safety. The approximately 25-year-old male was transported to a local hospital with moderate injures.
