Firefighters are mopping up any remaining hot spots (expected to last about 30 mins) and the tracks will remain shut until hose lines are clear. Structure Fire 08/07/2024 INC#0875

Structure Fire; INC#0875; 06:20PM; 5014 S Avalon Bl; https://bit.ly/3LVDDJp; South Park; At 3:16pm LAFD arrived to find a 10' x 15' outbuilding and a few pallets of hand sanitizer with fire showing. Within a few minutes, firefighters extinguished the fire in the outbuilding. Hand sanitizer burns clean (with no smoke or danger of exposure) and it is safer to allow the materials to burn in a controlled manner. The incident commander arranged for sand (to contain any possible runoff) and Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) to be delivered on scene. AFFF is a fire suppressant used to extinguish flammable liquid fires. There are no structures threatened, no injuries reported and no threat to the area. It will be an extended duration operation with no pre-determined end time. Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0542; 01:00PM; 22101 W Burbank Bl; https://bit.ly/4dx7y6D; Woodland Hills; KNOCKDOWN: Over 50 firefighters conducted a coordinate search to locate, isolate and extinguish fire in the walls of a two story (4 unit, each two floors) condo complex. During the 45 min operation, firefighters used thermal imaging cameras and strategically opened walls where needed. There are no injuries reported. Earthquake Mode ; INC#1612; 09:14PM; https://bit.ly/3wjsDl6; A preliminary magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurred at 9:09 PM PDT, centered near Mettler, California, 89 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Pursuant to protocol, the LAFD is now in earthquake mode, as personnel from all 106 neighborhood fire stations conduct a strategic survey by land, air and sea of their districts, examining critical infrastructure and areas of local concern across our 470 square mile City of Los Angeles jurisdiction. Once this process is complete and reports are consolidated, assuming there is no significant damage, LAFD Earthquake Mode will be complete. This process typically takes less than one hour. There are currently no initial reports of structural damage or injuries. An update will be provided once LAFD Earthquake Mode is complete. Though no additional earthquake activity is predicted, firefighters ask you to prepare for any aftershock. If inside when shaking starts: Drop, Cover, Hold On! Protect your head and neck while taking cover under sturdy furniture or near a sturdy interior wall, away from windows and doorways until the shaking stops.
