Update Structure Fire 01/17/2017

Update Structure Fire; 05:53PM; 3701 E Union Pacific Av; internal:/; Boyle Heights; KNOCKDOWN: Over 140 FF in 49 mins. The firefight was contained to the 2nd story of an approximately 1000' x 3000' commercial structure, housing heavy baled goods on the 1st floor and primarily offices on the 2nd floor. Firefighter faces at least four offices fully involved in fire and their aggressive, offensive interior attack coordinated with a roof ventilation operation prevented the fire from spreading. MEDIA STAGING: Calzona and Union Pacific, next to the incident command post. No injuries reported. Crews are making good progress with an aggressive offensive attack on the second floor, working to save this building. It is a textile business housed in the structure. Update Confined Space Rescue; 03:48PM; 755 S Spring St; internal:/; #DTLA LAFD rescuers reached the patient and 'packaged' him in the appropriate equipment in order to safely bring him back to the surface. The rigging to now raise him to the surface is being put in place, it has to be changed from the lowering system that was used to reach the patient. The patient is now alert and oriented and in severe pain for lower extremity injury and additional possible injuries to be determined by hospital staff. Update Confined Space Rescue; 03:09PM; 755 S Spring St; internal:/; #DTLA 30M patient was initially conscious and talking but is now unresponsive. The LAFD is quickly setting up the equipment required to safely make entry into the tank and rescue the patient. This 'confined space' rescue is regulated by federal safety laws that protect both the rescuers and the victims to ensure it is performed without further harm. 71 FFs on scene.
