Boil Water Notice Lifted in Granada Hills and Porter Ranch; 06:41PM; #GranadaHills #PorterRanch; The City of Los Angeles today announced that LADWP has lifted the Boil Water Notice in Granada Hills and Porter Ranch following rigorous testing and reporting of water quality results to the California Division of Drinking Water. The tap water is safe to drink. Impacted customers may now resume regular use of tap water but LADWP strongly recommends that customers flush their pipes by turning on all of the faucets one by one to let the old water flush out over the course of roughly five minutes. The immediate area was secured, with Whittier Blvd/Lorena St traffic managed by LADOT. No escalation of risk beyond immediate area, no injuries reported. Substance identification is in progress with Los Angeles County Health officials on standby. Fire was held to the unit of origin, with adjacent units and floors above successfully protected from fire impingement. Knockdown declared in 26 minutes with 44 firefighters on scene. With summer temperatures on the rise, LAFD has been keenly focused on mitigating wildfire threat in these areas during LADWP's repair process -- additional resources staged throughout the affected area have now been released. Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0297; 04:33AM; 16208 S Vermont Av; https://bit.ly/3HjRrPq; Harbor Gateway; KNOCKDOWN at the "Major Emergency" fire known as Vermont IC. It took the combined effort of 144 firefighters 5 hours (300 minutes) in defensive mode to contain the complex fire and mitigate various safety considerations. Multiple LAFD units, including Hazmat, will remain on scene to monitor and control any fire or life safety hazards due to the large amount of lead-acid batteries burning at this commercial occupancy. The fire is under active investigation.
