KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire 04/05/2024 INC#0193

KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0193; 09:21AM; 1416 S Main St; https://bit.ly/3xgPvBF; #DowntownLA; Firefighters continued operating in defensive mode for several hours, knocking back flare ups from adjacent rooftops, and protecting the neighboring buildings. The commercial building contained large amounts of clothing/textiles while burned readily and continued to fuel the fire. The roof partially collapsed part way through the incident, and firefighters maintained their strategies, waiting for the rest to collapse and give hose streams a straight shot at the burning materials beneath. Remote Suppression firefighting vehicle "RS3" was used to enter the unstable structure and gain access to better suppression angles and deeper penetration. Overall, it took 120 firefighters 4 hours and 12 minutes to extinguish the flames, however much of the debris within the rubble contains extremely hot spots that will need to be uncovered by LAFD Heavy Equipment. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries. Fire Investigators are on scene conducting a fire-cause investigation.; FS 10; Batt 1; Central Bureau; Council District 14; AR1 AR11 AR14 AR22 BC1 BC11 BC13 BC5 CM20 CM22 E10 E11 E13 E14 E15 E2 E203 E209 E210 E211 E215 E220 E221 E226 E294 E3 E63 E66 E9 E95 EA1 EM11 EX2 HE4 HE5 HR3 PI4 RA10 RA3 RA803 RA810 RS3 SO1 SQ21 SQ95 T10 T11 T15 T20 T21 T26 T3 T9 T94 UR3 UR88; CH7; 12 13 15; Nicholas Prange

A heavy fire load (reported as clothing/textiles) and a mezzanine inside have contributed to the fire behavior. The building has sustained a partial roof collapse. Firefighters have established positions on adjacent buildings on either side using hand lines to keep the flames at bay, but due to the condition of the building, this will be an extended operation. Crews are prioritizing the neighboring buildings, and will need to bring in LAFD Heavy Equipment crews to finalize extinguishment later this morning. So far, there have been no reported injuries.
