Thankfully, the first 14 firefighters extinguished the flames prior to any inside involvement of the structure. No reported injuries. Update Hazardous Materials; INC#0903; 02:40PM; 20750 W Marilla St; https://bit.ly/4ceULFb; #Chatsworth; LAFD's Hazardous Materials specialists continue to investigate the identity and source of the vapor cloud coming from an outdoor storage area behind a large one-story commercial building. The 31 occupants of the building have been safely evacuated. Paramedics evaluated eight people. Seven declined hospital transport. One person (approximately 50-year-old male) was transported with only minor medical complaints. PIO Captain Adam Van Gerpen is on scene for media requests. Firefighters are helping the (approximately 70) occupants of the building to evacuate. They will isolate the hazard area and deny entry until the nature of the vapor cloud is known. No reported patients. There is no known offsite hazard. Civilian Fatality Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#0641; 10:35AM; 2519 W 74th St; https://bit.ly/3yNLvt9; #HydePark; PRELIM: 43 Firefighters took just 14 minutes (10:49 AM) to access, confine and fully extinguish flames within a 2,200 square foot one-story home. Despite the lack of any smoke alarms within the 101 year-old residence, an elder female became aware of the fire, and was able to escape from the rear of the home without injury. Sadly, her elder male bedridden spouse was discovered lifeless in the front of the residence. Beyond medical assistance, He was determined deceased and remains at the scene. No other injuries were reported. Fire cause under investigation. Mayor's Crisis Response Team volunteers are en route to assist the woman, family and neighbors. In a well-coordinated offensive firefight, 52 LAFD Firefighters took just 29 minutes to extinguish heavy fire on the first floor of a 2,478 square foot combination one- and two-story home. As the intense flames were extinguished, firefighters discovered an adult female within the home in need of immediate medical care. She was transported by ambulance in undetermined condition to an area hospital. No other injuries were reported. The fire's cause is under active investigation.
