Vehicle Fire 08/17/2021 INC#1061

Vehicle Fire; INC#1061; 02:38PM; 6638 N Elmer Av; https://bit.ly/3yYHUUe; North Hollywood; PRELIM: First arriving LAFD crews have contained and are continuing their efforts to fully extinguish a burning City of Los Angeles trash truck in a residential alley. Flames from the well-involved vehicle (and still on-board residential refuse) were prevented from damaging nearby homes, but did damage an adjacent power pole. The vehicle operator escaped unharmed. Firefighters will allow Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) now leaking from a tank aboard the vehicle, to continue to burn in a safe and controlled manner until the fuel is exhausted. There is no off-site or escalating hazard. Fire cause under investigation. Update #60thStreetFire Greater Alarm Civilian Fatality Structure Fire; INC#1098; 05:20PM; 1001 E 60th St; https://bit.ly/3jX1ydi; Florence; The remains of one adult male civilian have been discovered by LAFD Firefighters during their rigorous search of the heavily damaged fire building. Witnesses describe the man as one of two employees who ran into the burning building prior to LAFD arrival, the other person having quickly returned to outdoor safety, uninjured. No other civilian injuries or missing persons have been reported. The one injured LAFD firefighter, injured in a 4 foot fall from a ladder, is receiving medical attention for his non-life threatening injuries at an area hospital. Firefighters will remain at scene this evening to overhaul smoldering debris, physically assist the Coroner's staff, and support the still active fire cause investigation by LAFD Investigators. A positive identification of the deceased man, as well as the cause, time and manner of his death, will be determined by the Coroner. #Knockdown - #60thStreetFire Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#1098; 04:33PM; 1001 E 60th St; https://bit.ly/3jX1ydi; Florence; 117 LAFD personnel assisted by LACoFD in automatic aid, took just 57 minutes to fully extinguish flames largely contained within a 50' x 75' one-story fortified metal building, an apparent (still unidentified) metal furnishings manufacturing firm. On one adult male worker, seen entering the building prior to firefighter arrival, remains unaccounted for. A systematic and physically exhaustive secondary search of the premises continues, including a mezzanine and nearby areas heavily damaged by fire that contains dense metal (furnishings?) storage. One LAFD Firefighter was injured during fire attack, when he fell ~ 4 feet from a ladder. He has been taken to an area hospital for primary care of non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries reported. Update #60thStreetFire Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#1098; 04:25PM; 1001 E 60th St; https://bit.ly/3jX1ydi; Florence; 117 LAFD personnel (with LACoFD assistance in automatic aid) have largely contained this LAFD Greater Alarm fire, holding still active flames and smoldering fire within the large metal building of origin, an apparent metal furnishings manufacturing firm where one adult male worker, seen entering the building prior to LAFD arrival, was not seen exiting, and remains unaccounted for. A systemic search continues. One LAFD Firefighter sustained a non-life threatening injury in a ~ 5 foot fall during fire attack (that had transitioned to offensive tactics at 4:05 PM), and has been taken to an area hospital for primary care.
