KNOCKDOWN Outside Fire; INC#1480; 06:04PM; 19300 W Nordhoff St; https://bit.ly/486uSpa; #Northridge; Firefighters found a large homeless encampment on fire, with flames spreading to a quarter acre of grass and trees, and threatening a commercial building. Thirty-four firefighters deployed hose lines, held the flames to a quarter acre, and protected the nearby commercial building, extinguishing the flames in 25 minutes. No reported injuries. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1386; 05:02PM; 250 W Sepulveda St; https://bit.ly/3GyzyZc; #SanPedro; Firefighters found a vacant duplex with heavy fire showing from the rear unit. Crews began operating hose lines from the exterior, and knocked the flames back enough to continue the fight inside the structure (called a transitional attack), while other crews ascended ladders to the roof for vertical ventilation. Ultimately, it took 32 firefighters 16 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames, before any fire reached the other unit in the duplex. No reported injuries. Two elderly residents (a male and a female) were transported to a local hospital in fair condition due to smoke inhalation. Ultimately, it took 33 firefighters 25 minutes to extinguish the flames.
