Update Rescue 04/01/2018

Update Rescue; 10:19PM; 5254 W Zoo Dr; internal:/; Hollywood; #GriffithParkRescue Our search continues for Jesse Hernandez and we anticipate an extended operation throughout the night. LAFD is working closely with the Bureau of Engineering, Bureau of Sanitation and Bureau of Contract Administration to bring in specialized 'closed circuit' cameras to further the search. These cameras have more advanced capabilities including lighting and the ability to attach to a pontoon which will crawl along the pipe. The pipes are 4' in diameter with varying depths of water moving at approximately 15 MPH. All possible City resources are being utilized in the search for Jesse. Our thoughts remain with Jesse and the extended Hernandez family. ; FS 56; Batt 5; West Bureau; Council District 4; Margaret Stewart

Update Rescue 04/01/2018

Update Rescue; 09:15PM; 5254 W Zoo Dr; internal:/; Hollywood; #GriffthParkRescue The coordinated Air to Ground search for 13yo Jesse Hernandez continues with over 100 LAFD firefighters and assisting agencies LAPD, CHP, LA City Recreation and Parks, Park Rangers, Department of Water and Power and Department of Sanitation. This is a closed system of sewage pipes which requires a detailed search along each possible path of travel. The Department of Sanitation is working closely with LAFD to map out the system and determine any void spaces as potential catch points. LAFD Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces are utilizing gear designed for these technical operations. They mounted a specialized camera on a flotation device (similar to a 'bogey board') which was tethered to a rope and extended 300' down a pipe. Firefighters are also using gas meters and all available equipment to safely conduct this on-going search. Per the family request, LAFD released a picture of Jesse via our social media channels in the hopes that if he is not in the pipe system, someone will see him and notify LAPD. Picnicking in the Griffith Park area is an Easter tradition for the Hernandez family and consequently, over 20 family members are present. The Mayor's Crisis Response Team is on scene helping to console and support family members. Our search continues and updates will be provided as possible.; FS 56; Batt 5; West Bureau; Council District 4; Margaret Stewart
