Firefighters initiated fire attack from the roof and interior simultaneously, while also coordinating salvage operations within the home to protect property from water damage. This fire proved stubborn -- crews chased it into the walls of the home before finally declaring knockdown in 35 minutes with 47 firefighters working on scene. First-arriving companies proceeded in the offensive mode, made access to an apartment on the second floor, and found fire in a closet. Knockdown declared in 20 minutes from initial 911 contact. Though flames impacted brush along the south side of Burbank Blvd, firefighters successfully prevented spread north of the road. No injuries reported -- fire companies are proceeding with extreme caution due to damaged trees and branches throughout the burned area. Heavy equipment crews are en route to assist with mop-up and the establishment of bare-earth dozer lines around the perimeter, with full containment expected to require an extended operation into early evening. The Big Rig driver was able to safety separate the tractor + cargo trailer and is uninjured. The vehicle fire is extinguished. No injury. LAFD crews will remain at scene through daybreak to fully extinguish hotspots and create a bare earth perimeter of the burned area. Fire cause under investigation.
