Knockdown - Vehicle Fire; INC#0775; 02:16PM; 8449 N Laurel Canyon Bl; https://bit.ly/3Tvx1FW; #SunValley; *Address Corrected* After more than two hours of well-coordinated defensive firefighting operations that contained fire to the City of Los Angeles Sanitation Bureau CNG (Compresses Natural Gas) powered waste recycling vehicle, and prevented injury or damage to any structure, the bulk of flames have been extinguished, and residents of all but two of the 21 homes that were briefly evacuated as a precaution, have been allowed to rehouse. Residents of the two remaining homes closest to the still-smoldering vehicle, will be allowed back into their homes shortly. No injuries were reported. The specific cause of this fire has yet to be determined. NOTE: This incident comes nearly seven months to the day of a violent explosion of a CNG-fueled semi-truck in the City of Los Angeles community of Wilmington on February 15, 2024, that hospitalized nine LAFD Firefighters. Greater Alarm Structure Fire - Now Out ; INC#0796; 11:51AM; 808 W 68th St; https://bit.ly/3MIK2rQ; #VermontSlauson; PRELIM: First arriving 50 LAFD Firefighters took just 28 minutes (12:19 PM) to access, confine and fully extinguish fire in one first floor unit of a 7,800 square foot, 16 unit two-story apartment building (built 1930). Two adult civilians and four pet dogs were rescued from the smoke charged structure, including a 70-year-old female taken by paramedic ambulance to an area hospital in undetermined condition, and a 73-year-old male (unknown affiliation) who declined medical treatment and ambulance transportation. No other injuries reported. The canines are being attended to by firefighters. Their condition has yet to be determined.
