It took 16 minutes to extinguish the flames (3:17am), confining the damage to the unit-of-origin. The upstairs unit was able to remain occupied after the fire, but three adults will be displaced from the ground-floor unit (fire unit), and American Red Cross was notified to support them. During fire attack, they found a lifeless adult male within the garage conversion. Beyond medical help, he was determined dead, and remains at the scene. No other injuries reported. The well coordinated efforts of LAFD crews prevented intense flames from damaging two adjacent homes. One resident with minor injury declined care. The American Red Cross will be assisting 8 of the 9 adults displaced by the fire, which heavily damaged the structure. An LAFD Flight Paramedic has been lowered from a hovering LAFD Rescue Helicopter, and is medically stabilizing the patient, preparing her to soon be hoisted into the hovering helicopter, where she will be provided in-flight care during direct transport to an area hospital.
