Crews made entry, advancing hose lines, and found fire on the lower floor (floor Sub-1). The first 34 firefighters extinguished the flames in 23 minutes. Sadly, one person was found dead at the scene. Paramedics provided assessment, care, and hospital transport for one other person with symptoms of smoke inhalation. LAPD Inc #2383. Cause under investigation. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0337; 07:51AM; 2219 S Orange Dr; https://bit.ly/3UViPaS; #MidCity; Firefighters arrived at a one-story single-family home to find heavy smoke showing from the attic. Crews forced entry into the home, to find their movement impeded by excessive storage inside. Ventilation crews cut holes in the roof and discovered the majority of the fire was in the attic. They advanced hose lines up onto the roof, and extinguish the bulk of the fire from above, through holes they made in the roof. Firefighters performed a primary search of the structure, and did not find any occupants inside. Ultimately, it took 32 firefighters 27 minutes to extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Update Multi-Patient Traffic Collision with Entrapment 02/25/2024 INC#0684

Update Multi-Patient Traffic Collision with Entrapment; INC#0684; 12:40PM; 18153 W Vanowen St; https://bit.ly/3wBrRiS; #Reseda; Firefighters responded to a traffic collision involving at least 4 vehicles (plus 2 additional parked vehicles impacted) and a sheared hydrant. Upon arrival, firefighters found that one trapped patient was deceased (left in place for law enforcement investigation and medical examiner), and two others were in need of extrication. Crews used hydraulic rescue tools (similar to "Jaws of Life") to free both trapped patients from one vehicle. An additional 8 patients were involved, but not trapped. Firefighter-Paramedics evaluated a total of 11 patients (including the deceased). Six patients were transported to area hospitals, and four declined transport by LAFD ambulance. Firefighters successfully shut down the hydrant after extricating the trapped patients. LAPD Inc #2049. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1446; 08:43PM; 4161 S Vermont Av; https://bit.ly/3TeJuhG; #VermontSquare; Firefighters investigated smoke found on the first and second floor, and spreading throughout the building. It took 80 firefighters 37 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. Crews set up a system of blowers to remove the smoke and reintroduce fresh air into the building. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries. Crews arrived and are on scene assessing the situation. Department of Building and Safety is also responding with a Geologist to conduct an assessment. Firefighters are in close communication with residents in the immediate area (approximately 5 homes in the vicinity). There is currently no evacuation order.
