Update Fatality - Confined Space Rescue; INC#0720; 01:18PM; 12000 S Vista Del Mar; https://bit.ly/2MZchr9; Playa del Rey; Despite bystander CPR and continued care by 47 LAFD responders, including LAFD Paramedics and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) personnel specially trained, equipped and certified to perform confined space rescues, the 43 year-old male worker (unknown site affiliation) has been determined dead at the scene, after sustaining severe trauma from an approximately 25' fall to the bottom of a 15' x 15' pit-like confined space that was mostly dry, with a small amount of moisture at bottom, utilized for unknown purpose, at the City of Los Angeles Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant. LAFD responders will remain at scene to assist the Coroner in his removal. The driver of the other vehicle is uninjured. One or more lanes of Tampa Avenue and/or Chatsworth Street are expected to remain closed in the immediate vicinity until LAPD operations are complete, unknown duration. Update Structure Fire; INC#0857; 04:03PM; 8839 N Cedros Av; https://bit.ly/3sUl5xH; Panorama City; KNOCKDOWN: 96 firefighters extinguished the fire in both buildings in one hour and 11 minutes. Crews are continuing to ensure there are no hot spots in the walls and assessing the level of damage to the units in both buildings. There are no injuries reported and needs are being evaluated for occupants who will be displaced (unknown number at this time). LAFD PIOs Captain Erik Scott and Firefighter David Ortiz are expected be on scene in the next 10 minutes to assist the media. Arson investigators are responding to assist in the cause investigation per protocol. LAFD PIO's Captain Erik Scott and Firefighter David Ortiz are enroute to assist the media on scene. This incident is at the Greater Alarm status with 89 firefighters assigned.
