It took 49 firefighters 21 minutes (2:05am) to extinguish the flames, and limit the damage to the nearby commercial building. Flames spread to the home on the adjacent property to the rear, but firefighters quickly extinguished the flames to limit the damage to the exposed home. Fire spread to the nearby grass and consumed approximately 1.5 acres. This area is fully contained by the surrounding roads, and there are no structures or personal property threatened. It took 22 firefighters 43 minutes (12:58pm) to locate, establish a water supply to the freeway location, and extinguish the burning dry grass on the shoulder at the interchange. No one required evacuation, but were encouraged to remain in their units with doors closed to escape the smoke ("shelter-in-place"). Firefighters kept the fire to the unit-of-origin. One patient (elderly female) was evaluated and transported with moderate smoke inhalation.
