The victim was located and the LA County Sheriff Dept helicopter, which was closest, is conducting a hoist operation to retrieve the body. LAFD Air Ops was canceled. Firefighters began the investigation and located smoke showing on the 7th floor. Fire attack utilized the building stand pipes for water and extinguished a ‘contents only’ fire in the kitchen of one unit. A primary search located two dogs who were safely contained in a room. There were no other occupants. There was no evacuation required - all other residents sheltered in place in their units. Firefighters found a two story, center hall apartment building with fire showing from the 2nd floor. Firefighters initiated an offensive operation and achieved a knockdown in just 17 minutes. Three patients (age/gender/condition unknown) are being evaluated. Cause and $ loss to be determined.
