Firefighters began in defensive operations, knocked down the bulk of the intense flames, and transitioned to an offensive attack to complete the suppression efforts in 20 minutes (6:12am). Thrown a distance, he landed partially beneath but was not trapped by another vehicle exiting a shopping center parking lot. The man was determined deceased and remains at the scene. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0082; 02:57AM; 4163 S Broadway St; https://bit.ly/44ldFWQ; Historic South-Central; Over 80 firefighters extinguished this Greater Alarm fire in one hour and 33 minutes with no injuries reported. There are hot spots and small pockets of fire remaining which will be held in check while the RS3 robotic firefighting vehicle is prepared for deployment and makes entry. The structural instability renders it unsafe for firefighters to complete extinguishment with an interior attack. LAFD Arson is on scene for the investigation, per protocol for a fire of this magnitude. Update Structure Fire; INC#0082; 02:38AM; 4163 S Broadway St; https://bit.ly/44ldFWQ; Historic South-Central; With over 80 firefighters on scene (Greater Alarm status), this defensive operation is making progress but heavy fire remains in the structure. Due to visible signs of potential structural collapse on the North/East side (Alpha / Delta side) of the building, firefighters aren't able to target portions of the interior of the structure. Heavy equipment operators are enroute with the RS3 robotic firefighting vehicle to safely make entry. There are no injuries reported. LA DWP are enroute for high tension wires down.
