The meters used at the scene cannot differentiate between methane and natural gas. The Gas Company has been collecting samples to be tested in a lab in order to determine the actual chemical make-up of the gas or gasses present. Update Natural Gas Leak; 06:50PM; 3480 W Hyde Park Bl; https://goo.gl/maps/HTkqgKu9Sny; South Los Angeles; LAFD continues to coordinate efforts with LAPD, DWP, the Gas Company, and Watershed in order to isolate and determine the source of higher than normal gas readings along Brynhurst Av. Checks have been performed on adjacent streets showing normal gas levels. The higher readings appear to be isolated to Brynhurst Av. The Gas Company is performing additional tests to more accurately determine the exact make-up of the gasses present. LAFD is coordinating mitigation of the issue in conjunction with LAPD and DWP.
