Hazardous Materials; INC#1004; 04:19PM; 724 E 60th St; http://bit.ly/2IoLQp3; Florence; A pallet of benzoyl peroxide (used for bleaching clothing) spilled in a business occupancy (one unit in a row-of-commercials). Initial teams isolated the area and denied entry. The chemical off-gassing had the appearance of smoke from a fire. LAFD HAZMAT found no fire, only off-gassing from the chemical. Thirty workers were evacuated from the business and adjacent businesses on either side. Other nearby businesses were instructed to shelter in place. The situation is static and there is no further public hazard. Watershed, LA County Supervisor, and LAPD will work with LAFD to contain and clean up the spill. All workers who evacuated were asymptomatic. No reported injuries. One person was rescued from the fire unit before incurring any injuries. Paramedics will examine the patient as a precaution. No reported injuries. One adult male civilian who sustained minor smoke inhalation, has declined hospital transportation. No other injury reported. Update Structure Fire; INC#1438; 11:45PM; 1051 W 190th St; http://bit.ly/2maxqRB; Harbor Gateway; Due to the amount of water poured into the contents on the 2nd floor and questionable structural integrity of the floor due to the weight of the packed contents, incident is moving to a defensive operation and will operate from the exterior only. Truck companies have hand lines through the roof into the building and firefighters will continue to apply water through windows and exterior access holes. The bulk of the fire is extinguished but a knockdown is not yet declared. No additional resources are anticipated to be needed and the incident command is working to release some resources. No injuries reported. This will be an extended duration operation due to the excessive storage inside the structure.
