The firefighter's quick work contained the fire to contents of the building and prevented spread into the framing of the structure. The building type is updated to a commercial building (as opposed to strip mall) that appears to be vacant. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0239; 05:34AM; 500 W Manchester Av; https://bit.ly/3B3j35P; #VermontVista; *Corrected Address* LAFD arrived to find a 3,600 sq-ft commercial building erected in 1986 with heavy fire showing. Firefighters engaged in defensive operations, setting up ladder pipes and exterior hose lines, and established a "collapse zone" around the building (in case walls fell outward). There was, indeed, a collapse. Three firefighters were injured from debris that flew beyond the established collapse zone. Thankfully, two firefighters were evaluated and returned to work on the fire line. One firefighter, with a non-life threatening injury, was transported to the hospital for evaluation. It took 89 firefighters 42 minutes to extinguish the flames. LAFD Heavy Equipment is responding to assist with moving debris and locating smoldering materials underneath.
