The original fire building is a total loss while firefighters stopped an attic fire burning in the exposed commercial building on the Delta (East) side. The building on the Delta (East) side of the building has possible extension into the attic (one story bungalow). Update FATALITY Structure Fire; INC#0242; 04:54AM; 1359 W 54th St; https://bit.ly/2OGRVDV; Vermont Square; After knockdown, firefighters were overhauling the fire and located a deceased person inside the vehicle (this was an auto fire which extended into the commercial building). LAFD Arson investigators and LAPD are responding with the preliminary reports on scene of the victim being a 15yo M passenger and one additional person in the vehicle safely exited prior to LAFD arrival. The small detached structure contained excessive storage and had been converted to a living space. Firefighters extinguished the flames in 17 minutes (4:21pm) from the time of alarm. Sadly, one adult female was found deceased inside the structure. Cause under active investigation.
