Update Causing Widespread Odor Major Emergency Structure Fire -; INC#0181; 08:30PM; 1228 S Compton Av; https://bit.ly/3Acw76S; #Downtown; *Address Corrected from 14th Street*. LAFD Firefighters have remained throughout the day at the non-injury 'major emergency' structure fire that consumed a large downtown Los Angeles flooring business early Sunday morning, leading to a strong and persistent smoke odor that has lingered across the greater Los Angeles area. Though active flame was brought under control in just 83 minutes, the countless tons of debris continue to smolder as LAFD personnel remain on scene with heavy equipment, including excavators and the LAFD RS3 Robotic Firefighting Vehicle to overhaul the scene and further soak the hot and smoking debris until at least early Monday. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation. *** Given current and anticipated conditions, it is likely that smoke will continue to be seen from the downtown location, and that a strong smoke odor may continue to be noted over a very wide area. Unless you have an emergency or can localize and offer a *specific location* for an *active fire* (with visible smoke and/or flames), there is no need to call 9-1-1 to report the widespread odor. Please remember that 9-1-1 is for reporting emergencies only. Additional Information Regarding This Incident can be found at: https://LAFD.ORG/NEWS; - Brian Humphrey
