Knockdown - Greater Alarm Structure Fire 06/21/2024 INC#0557

Knockdown - Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0557; 10:15AM; 955 S Kenmore Av; https://bit.ly/3RD4Ync; #Koreatown; First arriving 30 LAFD Firefighters took just 19 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish flames within the 1300 square foot one-story home (built 1901) that was well involved on their arrival. Firefighters prevented flames from damaging the pair of adjacent two-story apartment buildings. Early reports from 9-1-1 callers that one or more occupants of the burning home were reluctant to leave - and remained trapped inside, proved unfounded. However... one adult male resident who safely self-evacuated prior to LAFD arrival, decided to re-enter the burning home in an attempt to rescue a pet dog. Though he amazingly survived his attempt at this often deadly action, the intense heat and smoke soon pushed him out of the home, before he could find his pet. He is presently being treated at scene for smoke exposure and minor thermal injury. It is yet unclear if he will accept recommended transportation by ambulance to an area hospital. No other human injuries have been reported. Firefighters continue to search for the man's dog. *** The LAFD reminds you: When there is a fire in your home, quickly crawl low below the heat and smoke and exit the home immediately, closing the door(s) to any unoccupied room behind you as you exit. Once out, stay out! Gather with your family at your predetermined safe outdoor meeting place and stay there. Never re-enter a burning building. If people, pets or possessions remain behind, tell the first arriving firefighters. They are trained, equipped and prepared to rescue them from the flames.*** The cause of this fire remains under investigation.; FS 13; Batt 11; Central Bureau; Council District 10; BC1 BC11 BC13 BC18 BC6 CM20 CM22 E10 E13 E15 E203 E215 E220 E226 E26 E29 E3 EM11 HR3 RA29 RA803 RA813 SQ21 T15 T20 T26 T3 T9 UR3 UR88; CH9; 12 13; Brian Humphrey
