Crews forced entry through the front door and found one woman with burns and smoke inhalation in critical condition. A second patient was outside with lacerations (man in fair condition), applying water through broken windows to hamper the fire's progress. Both the man and woman were transported to a local hospital. It took 32 firefighters 16 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. Crews ascended the interior stair wells with hose and equipment, and made access to the top floor where they found fire in one unit. It took 52 firefighters 29 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. Firefighters will remain on scene to mitigate the water damage from fire suppression efforts, and evacuate smoke from the building. No reported injuries. An LAFD Rescue Helicopter has lowered a Flight Paramedic to medically assess the hiker, who will soon be hoisted along with the Flight Paramedic into the hovering LAFD helicopter for direct air transport to an area hospital. There are no reported injuries. The Red Cross is providing assistance for their immediate needs. The cause of the fire to the detached garage is believed to be suspicious and LAFD Arson is on scene to investigate.
