Worker Succumbs to Injuries in Trench Collapse

Wednesday, July 3, 2019

ENCINO - The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a rescue where a construction worker was killed after the trench collapsed where he was working.

At 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a reported trench rescue. Companies arrived to find a man in grave condition, buried chest deep in a 10-foot deep trench. Firefighters used lumber carried by the Urban Search and Rescue team to build supports used to shore up the trench, preventing a secondary collapse on rescuers and the patient. After creating a safe space to work, firefighters entered the trench to find the man had succumbed to his injuries. The soil was ultimately responsible for the man's demise. Cal-OSHA will be investigating the work site, as the cause of the collapse is still unknown.
