Greater Alarm Fire Damages Hermon Businesses

It took more than 100 firefighters to battle a greater alarm fire that damaged three adjoining business in northeast Los Angeles early Wednesday morning.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was summoned at 4:28 AM on July 13, 2016 to the 5900 block of Monterey Road in Hermon, where firefighters arrived quickly to find heavy fire showing from a one story L-shaped 110' x 110' multi-tenant shopping center. 

Holding the fire dramatically in check with defensive operations that spared two flame threatened businesses from harm, 104 firefighters under the command of Deputy Chief Phillip Fligiel labored relentlessly for 76 minutes to confine the fire to a restaurant, dry cleaners and adjacent coin laundromat, averting fire damage to a donut shop and hair salon.

There were no injuries.

Fire loss to Aki Sushi & Roll at 5916 Monterey Road, Sunny Cleaners at 5918 Monterey Road and SpinCycle Coin Laundry at 5920 Monterey Road, is still being tabulated. The cause of the blaze remains under active investigation.
