PHOTO & VIDEO INFORMATION
updated 1600hrs 23 Feb
The Los Angeles Fire Department welcomes anyone to take still photos or shoot video of the memorial procession. Please follow these guidelines:
For Everyone:
Know that the memorial procession is intended to honor our fallen brother firefighter. To that end, please show the appropriate respect at all times. This is not a fire incident.
For the Public:
Anyone may shoot video or photos from from behind barriers and/or on the sidewalk.
- The public should not cross provided barriers.
- You will not be allowed to cross barriers into the street to shoot video of photos.
- Videographers and photographers cannot interfere with officials performing their duties.
- At the request of the family and LAFD, there is no public access to the cathedral, nor are videographers and photographers allowed in.
For Local and National News Organizations:
News photographers and videographers are encouraged to review these materials carefully. Following the guidelines established herein will make your involvement more productive and enjoyable.
We understand that you are doing your job and want to get the best footage for your story. Our sole request is to utilize the lens capabilities on your cameras and allow a respectful distance from Engine 97, its firefighters, and the pall bearers. The LAFD will have uniformed photo and video members on scene. They will have street and cathedral access not available to you.
- Follow instructions from police, fire, and related officials.
- Do not position yourself in the street. If you have a shot to get, do so and move on, allowing the procession to proceed without disruption.
- Members of the media must have up-to-date credentials in plain sight.
- Only a “pool news” video and still camera will be allowed inside the cathedral. There will be no media staging area outside the cathedral (in the courtyard). When the procession arrives at the church, that will end the photo/video opportunity.
For Freelance Photographers:
Cooperate with other photographers and camera operators, especially those working for media outlets and the LAFD.
- Have proper ID and credentials with you.
- There is no freelance access in the cathedral.
