This will be an extended operation, possibly spanning more than one day, to allow for heavy equipment to remove debris and uncover smoldering materials. Interim housing accommodations are being made for displaced residents (total number currently unknown). No firefighter injuries reported. Firefighters acted quickly to prevent adjacent dwellings from becoming involved. No reported injuries. The fire building has been evacuated, and as a precaution, the four adjacent buildings have also been evacuated. The apartment building is showing signs of compromise on one side, and crews have cleared the potential collapse zone. There have been no additional patients reported (besides the first 2 reported - 1 transported, 1 declined). Fire in the basement has been extinguished. Firefighters continue to apply water through windows on the fire unit and on the (at least 2) exposed buildings adjacent to the structure. All occupants evacuated from the building with one transported in fair (stable) condition with unknown injuries (age/gender unknown at this time). Firefighters deployed hose lines into the windows in every unit as well as into the basement. Despite their continuous efforts, the deep seated fire looks to be extending up through the 2nd floor to the roof. The fire appears to have extended up from the basement into an additional unit on the 1st floor. There are indications of one wall on the 1st floor/basement buckling due to the heavy fire in the basement. Due to the risk of collapse, this is transitioning to a Defensive operation. Update Structure Fire; INC#0131; 03:45AM; 4057 S Main St; https://bit.ly/2X1vZU3; Historic South-Central; Firefighters made some progress against the fire in the basement from the transitional attack and are working to reach the fire now from an interior attack into the basement. Despite a compromised floor (due to the fire below), firefighters were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire in one unit on the 1st floor (fire is still int the walls) The primary search of the 1st floor is complete and any occupants located were evacuated.Occupants on the 2nd floor are currently sheltering in place as firefighters work their way to each unit to safely evacuate. A transitional attack (water applied from the exterior into through a window while crews continue to work to make access) has made progress against the fire. There appears to be extension into the 1st floor but uncertain if anything more than moderate smoke on the 2nd floor right now (firefighters are on the floor investigating). There are no injuries reported.
